2013 OHL DRAFT
The 2013 OHL Draft takes place on Saturday April 6th at 9:00am. The Ottawa 67's, who hold the first pick in this years draft will announce their selection at 2pm eastern time on April 5th.
Below is our 2013 OHL Mock Draft. Our staff makes our mock selections for the 1st round.
We tweeted the Top 5 picks on Wednesday of this week from @MarkedwardsHP twitter and they remain the same in our final mock draft.
1. Ottawa 67's - Travis Konecny - Forward - Elgin Middlesex Chiefs
2. Erie Otters - Dylan Strome - Forward - Toronto Marlboros
3. Peterborough Petes - Matthew Spencer - Defenseman - Oakville Rangers
4. Mississauga Steelheads - Sean Day - Defenseman - Detroit Compuware
5. Kingston Frontenacs - Lawson Crouse - Forward - Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs
6. Niagara IceDogs - Hayden McCool - Forward - Whitby Wildcats
7. Sudbury Wolves - Kyle Capobianco - Defenseman - Oakville Rangers
8. Saginaw Spirit - Mitchell Stephens - Forward - Toronto Marlboros
9. Sarnia Sting - Brett McKenzie - Forward - Oakville Rangers
10. North Bay Battalion - Blake Speers - Forward - Soo Thunder
11. SOO Greyhounds - Nikita Koroststelev - Forward - Toronto Jr. Canadiens
12. Guelph Storm - Mitchell Vande Sompel - Defenseman - London Jr. Knights
13. Kitchener Rangers - Troy Henley - Defenseman - Oakville Rangers
14. Oshawa Generals - Garrett McFadden - Defenseman - Grey-Bruce Highlanders
15. Barrie Colts - Matthew Kreis - Forward - Halton Hurricanes
16. Plymouth Whalers - Cameron Lizotte - Defenseman - Nickel City Sons
17. Owen Sound Attack - Ethan Szypula - Forward - London Jr Knights Gold
18. Belleville Bulls - Connor Schlichting - Defence - York Simcoe Express
19. London Knights - Mitch Marner - Forward - Don Mills Flyers
The key pick for us is with Niagara at #6. If we get this one wrong, our mock may not be pretty. We had a late change of heart and decided go with McCool over the player we were going to go with all week in McKenzie. If Niagara selects Mckenzie, we think that McCool will go to North Bay and Vande Sompel or Koroststelev will end up in Sarnia. It throws most of our picks off. Speers would probably end up in the Soo in this scenario.
The draft is heavy on D-men so you can expect t see plenty go early.
Our last pick was me taking a wild stab. Marner has not even said for sure if he will come to the OHL, but he just seems like a good fit in London. Marner is very talented and should go pretty early regardless.
Enjoy the draft and good luck to all the players.

Nikita Korostelev - Toronto Jr. Canadiens RW- 6'0" 176 lbs
LB : How do you describe yourself as a player?
NK: I'm a playmaking forward - I'm not very good defensively, but I'm best at making plays in the offensive zone. I'm working on my defensive abilities, but not as good as I want them to be now.
LB: Who would you say is one of the toughest players for you to play against?
NK:I never played against Travis Konecny at the start of the season because I was injured, but I know he's a very good player. He's a strong player and a tough kid to play against.
LB: What would you say is the strongest part of your game right now?
NK: Offensively, making different plays - pretty good shot and good hands.
LB: You mentioned a moment ago that the defensive part of your game isn't as good as you'd like it to be. So will that be your main focus as OHL draft approaches?
NK: Not the main focus - the main focus is to help my team win every game. Defensive abilities is just something I want to get better at.
LB: If there is any player you could bring to the OHL with you, who would it be and why?
NK: My Russian buddy on this team - he's not eligible for the draft because he is European player like me, #88. (Vladislav Sharipov)
LB: Growing up a European player, when did the potential to play in the OHL become real for you?
NK: When I played in Russia, I had no idea that I would play in Canada. I wasn't growing there as a hockey player, so I decided to come here last year and try what I can. Then my coach picked me up this year and I stayed with '96's so I was an underager. It really helped me.
Zach Wilkie - Toronto Jr. Canadiens - RD - 5'11" 162
LB: How do you view yourself as a player?
ZW: I'm a physical defenceman. I like to throw my body around, but I can also chip in on the offence if my team needs me to do so. I'm mostly defensive, but I can also chip in offence every so often.
LB: Who, for you, is consistently the toughest player for you to play against?
ZW: I'd say Dylan Strome. He's a very good forward, great vision on the ice, so you have to take his time and space away, then you go from there.
LB: What would you say right now is the strongest part of your game?
ZW: Probably my physical ability. I like hitting a lot, so I can be offensive as well. But mainly my physical ability is probably the best part of my game.
LB: What is the main aspect of your game you need to improve on?
ZW: I would probably say one of the main things I have to improve on is my patience. I have to be a little more patient with the puck. I tend to throw it away sometimes, so I have to calm my game down sometimes and use my ability to just be patient and move the puck up the ice.
LB: If you could bring any player to the OHL with you, who would it be and why?
ZW: I'd probably have to go with Nikita Korostelev for sure. When he and I are on the ice, we seem to find each other well, we have great chemistry and have all year, plus he's a phenomenal player to play with and it'd be a challenge to play against him.
LB: What aspect of your game will put you a step above the competition?
ZW: Being able to use my shot. I've been working on it all year, which has improved a lot. So if I can keep working on it then that will help my team.

Justin Lemcke - Whitby Wildcats - RD - 6'1" 185 lbs
LB: How do you see yourself as a player?
JL: I see myself as a shut-down man, being able to shut down the first line, make the first pass and get the puck out of our own end.
LB: Who are some of the toughest players or one player in particular that's difficult for you to play against?
JL: Probably on Kingston, the combination of Josh Leblanc and Aaron Luchuck. Both of them are good two-way players and being able to go both ways and they can put it in the back of the net if you give them a chance.
LB: What would you say right now is the strongest part of your game?
JL: Being able to shut down their first line and generating offence on the power play and penalty kill. So special teams has been good for me this year.
LB: With the upcoming OHL draft so close, there's room for improvement. Have you been giving feedback on something you need to improve on?
JL: Yeah, to just keep working on the first pass, make sure I pay attention in the defensive zone, and keep getting the puck out.
LB: If you could bring any player to the OHL with you, who would it be and why?
JL: Probably #61 on our team, Hayden McCool. He's fun to play with, a dynamic forward, and today he got the game winner for us. He can put the puck in the back of the net and play two ways as well in the defensive zone.
LB: What do you think you could bring to the table that's a step up above the competition?
JL: The ability to win here…losing on the OMHA final fueled our team and we're not going to let it happen again. We want to beat Oakville in the final.

Eastern Ontario Vs. NOHA All-Stars
Game 1:
NOHA All-Stars:
Caruso- Caruso plays with a really good hustle and he was competing well for pucks. He doesn't give up easy on plays, making the second effort all the time and has really nice agility to get away from the opposition. He used his hands really well in this game to beat defenders in order to draw penalties, and got in behind the defense to take a long pass for a break opportunity on net. He opened up well on the power play next to the net and was finding lanes to move the puck back to the slot for some good chances.
Eastern Ontario Wild:
Salloum- Salloum is a smooth skating defenseman who is calm with the puck and was distributing it really well. He was moving the puck around very nicely on the power play to create space and can make a great long pass to find a teammate at the far blue line. He was battling to win the puck in board battles then was moving it up quickly to start the rush.
Murray- Murray was making a good 1st pass up out of the zone and was getting his stick in lanes defensively to deflect shots out of danger. He made an excellent cross-ice feed on the power play for a great chance beside the net and can skate the puck up end-to-end nicely to get in towards the net for a good chance in tight. He was playing nice and physical on the defender in his own end along the boards, but at times was getting caught standing still which made it easy for the forward to make the play around him.
Toronto Vs. Barrie
Game 1:
Toronto Marlboros:
DeFarias- DeFarias has a pretty nice shot that he kept down low from the point. He possesses fantastic speed that he used to rush the puck up the ice, however skated his way into traffic and lost control of it resulting in a turnover. He was going to the net, jumping down low on the rush driving hard to the net with his stick down to provide scoring options and came back to his own end to make a great diving play to knock the puck away from the opposition in the defensive zone. He made some great breakout passes up out of his own end, was taking away passing lanes on the opposition's odd-man rush and was going down really well to take away the opposition's shooting and passing options. He played his man pretty hard and physical along the boards, but has to watch some of the terrible turnovers right up the middle through the neutral zone.
