Roster Changes Announced for 2012 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game
WHL’s Mike Winther, Tim Bozon, and Branden Troock added to event rosters

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League in association with the Western Hockey League Kelowna Rockets Hockey Club and Home Hardware Stores Limited today announced that three players have been added to rosters for the 2012 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game to be played February 1 at Prospera Place in Kelowna, BC.
Mike Winther of the Prince Albert Raiders, and Tim Bozon of the Kamloops Blazers have been added to the Team Cherry roster while Branden Troock of the Seattle Thunderbirds will suit up for Team Orr. The three players replace Nail Yakupov of the Sarnia Sting, Jarrod Maidens of the Owen Sound Attack, and Matia Marcantuoni of the Kitchener Rangers who are all unable to participate due to injury.
Winther, an 18-year-old from Trochu, AB, is playing in his second WHL season with the Raiders. The 5’11’’, 170lb forward was ranked 26th among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting in their recent midterm rankings. In 45 games so far this season he has 39 points including a team-high 22 goals.
Bozon, a 17-year-old rookie from Lugano, Switzerland, is ranked 39th by NHL Central Scouting. At 6’1’’, 178lbs, the Blazers’ forward is tied for first among WHL rookies in scoring with 22 goals and 22 assists for 44 points in 44 games.
Troock, a 17-year-old Edmonton, AB, native is playing in his first full WHL season with the Thunderbirds. The big 6’3’’, 203lb power forward has 14 points in 34 games so far this season and was ranked 90th by NHL Central Scouting in their midterm rankings for the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
The 2012 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game is supported by title sponsor Home Hardware for the 13th straight year with associate sponsors Bank of Montreal, Subway, and CCM.
The game will be broadcast live to a national audience on Sportsnet and TVA Sports in Quebec beginning at 7:00 pm Pacific and available online through Sportsnet 590 The FAN.

Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Darrell Woodley is the new Director of OHL Central Scouting effective immediately.
Woodley, a 34-year-old native of Kitchener, ON, has spent the past nine seasons working with the Barrie Colts Hockey Club. He takes over for Rob Kitamura who accepted an Amateur Scout position with the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning in June.
“I am really looking forward to the challenge and am excited for the opportunity to work in this league by assisting the 20 member clubs, their management, and scouting staffs,” said Woodley. “I would like to thank the Barrie Colts for all of their support throughout my years as both a player and as a member of their staff.”
Woodley played three OHL seasons from 1994-97 beginning his career with the Oshawa Generals before playing his final two seasons in a Colts uniform. Following one season of professional hockey, Woodley continued his education pursuing a diploma in Business Administration Management Studies at Conestoga College where he graduated in 2002. Prior to joining the Colts for the 2002-03 season, Woodley also coached minor hockey in the Cambridge Hawks AAA program at the Minor and Major Bantam levels. In the Colts' front office, he served two seasons as a Skills Development Coordinator followed by two seasons behind the bench as an Assistant Coach. He spent the last five seasons as Director of Player Personnel coordinating and overseeing all aspects of their scouting department.
The OHL Exhibition Schedule begins on Friday September 2, 2011, when the London Knights host the Sarnia Sting, while Regular Season play commences Wednesday September 21, 2011, when the defending champion Owen Sound Attack host the Plymouth Whalers.

The roster was finalized Tuesday following Hockey Canada's four-day selection camp at Father David Bauer Olympic Arena in Calgary. The camp included daily practices and three Red-White intersquad games.
Canada's roster is made up of 13 forwards, seven defencemen and two goaltenders. Head coach Steve Spott (Waterloo, Ont./Kitchener, OHL), assembled the roster with support from assistant coaches Mario Duhamel (St-Bruno, Que./Drummondville, QMJHL) and Don Nachbaur (Kitimat, B.C./Spokane, WHL), Kevin Prendergast, Hockey Canada's head scout for the men's Program of Excellence, and Brad Pascall, Hockey Canada's vice-president of hockey operations/national teams.
“It was a very competitive camp, and choosing these 22 players was by no means an easy task,” said Spott. “All of the players named today have earned their spot on the roster, and we look forward to getting to Europe and continuing Canada's great tradition at this event.”
Canada has won the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament three straight years, and has won 15 of 20 summer under-18 tournaments since 1991. It will play in Group A in Breclav with the Czech Republic, Sweden and Switzerland. Group B, which consists of Finland, Russia, Slovakia and the United States, will play out of Piestany.

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that three CHL players will compete for Team USA at the 2011 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament August 8-13, 2010, in Breclav, Czech Republic, and Piestany, Slovakia.
Forwards Alex Galchenyuk of the Sarnia Sting and Cody Payne of the Oshawa Generals will be joined by defenceman Josh Hanson of the Portland Winterhawks.
A total of 22 players were named to the team following participation at USA Hockey’s Boys’ Select 17 Player Development Camp held July 7-13 at the Sports Centre at MCC in Rochester, New York.
Galchenyuk finished second in OHL rookie scoring with 83 points in 68 games after being selected first overall in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection. Payne, a native of Weston, Florida, recorded 13 points in 50 games for the Generals while Hanson, an Eagle River, Alaska, native produced three points in 43 games on the blueline for the Winterhawks.
Team USA will compete in Group B with games against Finland, Russia, and Slovakia. Group A consists of Canada, Sweden, Czech Republic, and Switzerland.
Team USA has finished in the top three of the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 10 times since the tournament’s inception in 1991, and won the gold medal at the tournament in 2003, and finished as silver medalists seven times, most recently in last year’s event with a 1-0 loss to Canada in the gold medal final.
The tournament honors the late Ivan Hlinka, a former Czechoslovakian national team player and coach.
101 CHL Players Selected in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft

St. Paul, MN – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that 101 CHL players were selected in the seven rounds of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft representing nearly 48% of the 211 drafted players.
The 101 players includes 21 selected in the first round which ties a CHL record set back in 1998 when the first consisted of 27 picks. Also on Friday night, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of the Red Deer Rebels became the fifth straight CHL player to be selected first overall when he was chosen by the Edmonton Oilers.
Of the 101 players selected, the Ontario Hockey League leads the way with 46 players selected matching the 2008 NHL Entry Draft as their highest total since 1999 when 52 players were selected. This season the Western Hockey League had 33 players, and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League had 22 players selected.
The QMJHL’s Saint John Sea Dogs had five players selected including three in the first round, while the OHL’s Oshawa Generals also had five players selected to lead all CHL clubs. Six different CHL clubs had four players selected including three OHL teams the Plymouth Whalers, the Saginaw Spirit, and the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Three WHL teams also had four players selected including the Edmonton Oil Kings, the Saskatoon Blades, and the Portland Winterhawks who led the 2010 NHL Entry Draft with eight players selected.
Every NHL team with the exception of the Washington Capitals selected at least one CHL player with the Detroit Red Wings and the Ottawa Senators leading the way with six CHL players each.
Canada was the top country represented in the draft with 79 Canadian-born players followed by 64 players born in the United States.
In total, there were 72 defencemen selected, followed by 58 players listed at center, 31 listed at left wing, 23 right wingers, and 19 goaltenders, while seven players were unidentified.
Last season, 107 CHL players were taken in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft led by 43 WHL players, followed by 42 from the OHL, and 22 from the QMJHL.
The CHL continues to be the number one development league in the world and the leading provider of talent to the NHL.

2011 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft Results

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced the final results of the 2011 CHL Import Draft.
The two rounds included a total of 62 players selected from 10 different countries.
The OHL’s London Knights made a trade with the Barrie Colts to acquire the first overall pick which they used to select Finnish defenceman Olli Maatta, a 16-year-old eligible for the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. After a trade with the QMJHL’s Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, the Quebec Remparts selected 2012 NHL Entry Draft prospect Russian forward Mikhail Grigorenko. The WHL’s Calgary Hitmen maintained the third overall pick and selected Swedish forward Victor Rask who was also chosen by the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round 42nd overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft June 25 in Minnesota.
Each team in the CHL is permitted to carry two European Import players each season. These players are selected annually at the Import Draft, with the order of selection rotating through each of the three leagues in the CHL using an inverse order of their final regular season standings from the 2010-11 season.

Last season the Prince George Cougars used the first overall pick to select Edmonton Oilers prospect Martin Marincin, before the Sarnia Sting selected this year’s OHL and CHL Rookie of the Year and 2012 NHL Entry Draft prospect Nail Yakupov. With the third overall pick the Halifax Mooseheads selected 2012 NHL Entry Draft prospect and Czech Republic National Junior Team member Martin Frk.
A total of 18 CHL players were selected in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft that are products of the Import Draft including five players chosen in the first round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft on June 24 in Minnesota including Gabriel Landeskog of the Kitchener Rangers who went second overall to the Colorado Avalanche, Sven Bartschi of the Portland Winterhawks who went 13th overall to the Calgary Flames, Vladislav Namestnikov of the London Knights who was picked 27th overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning, Nicklas Jensen of the Oshawa Generals who was chosen 29th overall by the Vancouver Canucks, and Rickard Rakell of the Plymouth Whalers who was chosen 30th overall by the Anaheim Ducks.
