An Introduction to Hockey Scouting is a leading Independent Scouting Service. We provide scouting services to teams and create draft publications for the NHL, OHL and QMJHL Drafts. After several years of getting requests from prospective scouts asking us to provide some sort of training course for would-be scouts, has now created a course to introduce hockey scouting and also a follow up course which gets more interactive.

If your goal is to pursue the scouting profession, we will help you gain a better knowledge of how to watch games the way a scout does and transfer what you see into scouting reports and rankings lists. We will also help you understand a little bit about what it’s actually like to be an NHL scout.

Students progress at their own pace through 40 + units that cover everything from game preparation to scouting hockey sense. Aspiring scouts can begin the course immediately after signing up. You can view the full Part One curriculum below.

The course is available 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Students have 11 months to complete Part 1 of the course. (Part 2 also allows 11 months to complete the course. The courses can easily be completed much more quickly. Scouts U will grade aspiring scouts and certificates are provided to students who complete both part 1 and part 2.

“I could not have found a better organization to start my scouting career with than Mark Edwards is a great leader who knows the game at a deep level, and is more than willing to share everything he knows to help you become a better scout. He will actively listen to your opinions, and ask questions to help engage more deeply about players or rankings. He created a solid team that worked together efficiently, and they all know their stuff. Working for definitely prepared me to scout for a WHL team as it was a seamless transition.”
