HAM #11 Nurse, Issac (2018) Issac showed good speed all night. He was able to create multiple scoring chances. Had a great chance off a two on one in the second period but was stopped by Paddock. Strong fore-check, creating turnovers. Had some trouble in his own end miscommunicating with teammates. Finished with 5 shots on goal.
HAM #17 Saigeon, Brandon (2018) Playing on Hamilton’s top line Saigeon had a pass first mentality to start the game. Great no look pass cross-ice to Thomas who put it off the cross bar. Skating and foot speed seemed to be an issue. One a key defensive zone draw which lead to the Bulldog’s first goal. Left the game in the second period after a big collision with Cale Fleury. Came back in the third had a great scoring chance in the slot but couldn’t finish, one timed the Thomas pass right back into Paddock’s body. First power play unit.
HAM #34 Kaliyev, Arthur (2019) The 16 year old Kaliyev had a strong showing tonight. He used his body and size well to protect the puck. Wasn’t the best skater on the ice but his hands were on display. He had a great scoring chance on his first shift of the game off a rebound. In the second period he was promoted to the first line when Saigeon went down with injury. Kaliyev had 3-4 great scoring chances tonight but they were all shut down by Paddock. I couldn’t tell he was the youngest player on the ice. Second power play unit.
REG # 21 Oksanen, Emil (2018) Emil was basically a non-factor in tonight’s game. Skating on the second line they struggled to create any offense. Emil turned the puck over in the neutral zone multiple times. Second power play unit.
REG #44 Paddock, Max (2018) Making his playoff debut, Max was a deciding factor in the Pats win tonight. He weathered an early storm form the Bulldogs. No sign of nerves what so ever. Throughout the game he made at least 5 or 6 ridiculous saves on quality scoring chances. At one point he received a standing ovation form his home crowd. One small knock on his game tonight was sometimes he was hesitant to freeze the puck. Could have been the first star of the game.
