Soo Greyhounds @ Barrie Colts, January 7, 2016

Final score: 6-1 Greyhounds

Barrie Colts

BAR #7 D Landry, Kale (2017) – Landry struggled to defend against speed and was beat wide on several plays. This led to a minor penalty as well as several quality chances against. He spent most of his time chasing play in the defensive zone and didn’t make much happen with the puck.

BAR #8 LW Chiodo, Lucas (2017) – Chiodo was one of the few Colts to accomplish anything in this game. He found space in the slot and sniped one home for Barrie’s lone goal. He also had a few controlled zone entries and did a nice job pressuring Soo’s puck carriers while playing very aggressive on the penalty kill.

BAR #12 D Keane, Joey (2017) – Keane had a rough game from the word go. On the penalty kill he failed to clear it a couple times. He also fanned on an outlet pass over the middle that was intercepted and led directly to a goal.

BAR #19 C Willms, Jason (2017) – Willms, like most Colts, didn’t generate much offensively but I liked his game without the puck. He was strong on the backcheck and forced a couple turnovers with backside pressure.

BAR #26 D Hedberg, Tom (2017) – Hedberg’s gap control in the neutral zone was good as he was one of the few able to force some dump-ins and prevent easy entries. Hedberg was good in the breakout and was accurate with his outlets on a routine basis. In the offensive zone he created a couple nice chances on the power play but forced a no-look pass that led to a 2-on-1 for a good chance the other way.

Soo Greyhounds

SSM #11 D Hollowell, Mac (2017) – Hollowell was one of the best players on the ice in this game. He had a handful of excellent rushes where he skated the length of the ice and created chances. Several times he flew down the wing and hit a trailer on the opposite side for a good look. Hollowell’s speed and non-stop attacking mentality caused all kinds of problems as, on top of the chances he created, he also drew a pair of penalties. Hollowell also showed a little bite in this game. Right after being drilled by Tyler Tucker, he got up and landed a big hit of his own.

SSM #16 C Frost, Morgan (2017) – Frost was very good through the neutral zone. He had several controlled zone entries and had no problem navigating around defenders when challenged. Frost was able to get off a couple deceptive shots that caused problems for David Ovsjannikov. He wouldn’t really lean into a shot or show it was coming and it just popped off his stick in short succession. Frost’s passing was good and the best example of that came on a play where he made a perfect cross-ice pass to start a tick-tac-goal on the man advantage.

SSM #21 D Timmins, Conor (2017) – Timmins was very poised with the puck and always seemed to make the right decisions with it. He passed with pinpoint accuracy all night and was excellent breaking the puck out of his own zone. Timmins’ positioning was strong in the defensive zone as he kept good gaps and didn’t let anyone get by him. He was also vocal in the defensive zone and made sure teammates knew their assignments and whom Timmins would cover if they were to switch their coverage against the cycle.

SSM #27 LW Hayton, Barrett (2018) – Hayton was given the opportunity to play in the top-6 and he showed well. Hayton was effective cycling down low and was able to help sustain extended periods of offensive zone time. He made some sharp cuts to lose defenders and was able to get himself a couple good chances in scoring areas. He was able to recover a couple of his own dump-ins and was all over the ice all night.
