Will Butcher – USNTDP

     As a 15 year old, Will Butcher put on an outstanding performance for the Madison Capitols U16 and U18 teams. He was arguably the most talented defenseman available in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection however chose to join the U.S. National Development Program instead.     and receiving good minutes with the team. Butcher is a good puck moving defenceman who occasionally and isn’t afraid to rush the puck up the ice as well. Butcher has a good shot, and seems to get better with his passing the closer he gets to the opposing net, and is a great quarterback on the power play. Butcher’s defensive play has been a work in progress. He has gradually improved throughout the year and this likely played a part with USA’s comfort level including him in the U18 Championships. Butcher will be a key player for the U18 team this year, and is expected to go to the University of Denver following next season, unless the Windsor Spitfires can persuade him to the OHL.
